Southwest Development PLC, an Ethiopian investment company, and its partner, SABMiller, the South African London-based brewery, have once again teamed up to establish a totally new liquor factory in Ethiopia, Ethiosports reported on January 4.

The new company, CAPTS SC, is established at a total investment capital of 70 million birr. Company sources said CAPTS SC built a liquor manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Ambo town, Senkele locality. Sources said the product brand called Black Lion includes whiskey, vodka, gin, ouzo, and cream. The new liquor factory has the capacity to produce 10,000 litres of liquor per hour. CAPTS SC will soon hold an official product launch ceremony in Addis Ababa.

SABMiller and Southwest also take majority control of the Coca Cola bottling business in Ethiopia as part of the recently announced Coca Cola Beverages Africa transaction.

SABMiller is the world’s second-largest brewer measured by revenues. Its brands include Fosters, Grolsch, Miller Brewing Company, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Pilsner Urquell. It has operations in 80 countries across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America and sells around 21 billion liters of lager per year.
