Brewery news

One of the newest breweries in West Virginia, Big Timber Brewing is now in business in downtown Elkins. But owner Matt Kwasniewski began preparing for the job thousands of miles away while working for a brewery in Polson, Montana. After spending time there, he decided to bring his knowledge back to the Mountain State, wboy.com reported on July 5.

"I kind of learned my way around a professional brew house, and I thought Elkins would be a good spot, so when I moved back home, I started working on that, and that was the end of 2011, I moved back here," said Kwasniewski.

Kwasniewski runs the brewery with his wife Ashley and his friend Sam Mauzy, They're already brewing a few different varieties of beer, but they said one of the best parts of the job is trying out new varieties and experimenting.

"You have categories of beer, like an IPA or an amber, but you can never stop discovering things about beer," said Ashley Kwasniewski.

They may not be sharing it with the world yet, but they ARE sharing with the state. Mauzy said they have their product in locations around West Virginia and are always looking to add more.

"I got it from Morgantown to Huntington, we got it in Fayetteville, Summersville, Bridgeport, Buckhannon, we're working on the Eastern Panhandle so we're really trying to jump out there and get big. We want to eventually put in a canning line and can our beer and get it in stores," said Mauzy.

And once that goal is reached, Ashley Kwasniewski said she's looking forward to the day when Big Timber is in more places than they even know.

"It'd be nice one day if we could go into a random store to get groceries or something and I see our beer in a cooler, and I didn't expect it, and be like 'oh there we are, I never knew!' That'd be amazing," said Kwasniewski.
