Brewery news

San Francisco’s newest beer producer, Fort Point Beer Company deserves the title of the most scenic brewery in the city, San Francisco Chronicle reported on January 22.

Fort Point is located on the easternmost edge of the Presidio, on Crissy Field. The guys behind the nascent brewery are brothers Tyler and Justin Catalan, who also own Mill Valley Beerworks across the bridge; for this new project, they’ve brought along brewer Mike Schnebeck from Mill Valley.

At Fort Point, they have a 40-barrel system, and are currently shipping their first beers around town. Their current offerings are spearheaded by an exclusive beer made for Tosca Cafe, a Kolsch-style ale (4.5% ABV, 15 IBU) made with Mt. Tamalpais yerba santa. In fact, they’re looking to collaborate on more beers; they’ve also got a beer made with Sebastian Sauer of Germany’s Freigeist Bierkultur, made with smoked malts and charred manzanita.

Also on the Fort Point slate of offerings:

Park (4.7%, 19): A hoppy wheat beer hopped with Citra hops
Villager (6.5%, 42): “San Francisco style IPA”
KSA (4.6%, 17) : “A San Francisco take on the classic Kolsch style”
Westfalia (5.6%, 26): A version of the Nuremberge-style rotbier
