USA: The Gambrinus Co. President Carlos Alvarez announced on April 2 that he had reached an exclusive agreement with the Trumer Brauerei in Obertrum, Austria, to brew and market Trumer Pils in the United States, according to American City Business Journals. Trumer Brauerei owner Josef Sigl and Gambrinus have begun development of a new dedicated brewery in Berkeley, Calif., to market the pilsner-style beer. The Trumer/Gambrinus venture is called Trumer International.

Currently, the beer is brewed and bottled in Austria. The first U.S. market to serve Trumer Pils is Charleston, S.C. Alvarez and Sigl were in the historic city Friday to commemorate the new venture. Once the new brewery is complete this summer, new markets will be added for distribution. "This entrepreneurial union could only have been possible between two independent companies with the commitment and passion to build the brand through excellence in brewing," Alvarez says.

A team of brewers from Trumer in Austria and Gambrinus from San Antonio will move to Berkeley to manage the new facility. "Trumer Pils International is a brewery's dream come true," says Sigl. "Our company remains independent of brewing conglomerates, and our pride and joy is to provide the beer drinker with our absolute best. I believe we can continue this tradition in association with The Gambrinus Co., knowing that they share this same vision. We found Carlos Alvarez and his company to be the perfect complement."
