Beer consumption in France decreased by 25% in the last 25 years. In 2003 France consumed 34.7 litres per capita. For comparison Ireland consumed 125 litres per capita. However in January 2004 France sold 1,336,987 hl of beer while in January 2003 it sold 1,165,685 hl of beer. French beer production in January 2004 registered a volume of 1,350,529 hl.
