Russia: German beer brand Kaltenberg, 600 years old, is to be brewed in Siberia, Russian Beer Union reported on March 22. Sobol Brewery based in Novosibirsk will output the famous brand. It is supposed that by the end of 2004 Kaltenberg will hold 8% of Sobol’s beer volumes (60% is held by Jigulevskoe national brand). Sobol intends to brew Kaltenberg Pils and Kaltenberg Lager as premium beers under the license of Konig Ludwig International with 20% of company’s volumes. It is planned that half of Kaltenberg produced in Novosibirsk will be sold in neighbouring regions of Siberia. Now Kaltenberg is brewed under license in eight countries including Ukraine.

Sobol brewery was launched in Novosibirsk in autumn last year. Some US$ 40 million were invested in its construction. Its production capacity is estimated at 120 million litres per year.
