Brewery news

Beers produced by Montgomery restaurant/brewery Railyard Brewing Co. this week will be available in the Birmingham market for the first time, distributor Birmingham Beverage Co. and Railyard announced on February, 18.

The beers also will be distributed in Huntsville and Tuscaloosa within a month.

Railyard co-owner Bob Parker said the brewery is producing nine different beers, with three available for distribution. The beers to be available in Birmingham include an IPA, an Irish red ale called Fireman's Red and a pilsner. The brewery doesn't yet can or bottle, so the beer initially will be available only in bars and restaurants.

The Montgomery restaurant opened in September, 2012, and began brewing on-site in November. It previously brewed its beers on contract at Gadsden's Back Forty Brewing Co.

Birmingham Beverage owner Harry Kampakis said Railyard's beers are a good addition to the state's growing collection of locally-made beers.

"Alabama's beer industry is (seeing) tremendous growth right now, with many new breweries ... entering the market," he said. "We are excited to add Railyard to our portfolio."
