Brewery news

Crooked Letter Brewing, Ocean Springs' first brewery, opened its doors for guided tours and samples, sunherald.com reported on January, 14.

Paul and Wanda Blacksmith own the 5,000-square-foot brewery.

The Blacksmiths created four brews: Mystery Romp, which straddles the line between a porter and a stout; the Gipsy India pale ale, the German-style Crooked Hefeweizen and the Stabello, an Italian-style lager.

Wanda said they soon will increase their fermenting capacity so that 100 kegs a day can be made. Already they have signed on for distribution in all of Mississippi and the southern portion of Louisiana. Locally, kegs will be available to bars through Rex Distributing Co.

Paul said they expect to start the bottling process in about five weeks and outside demand for their beers is large.

"It's kind of scary how many places are demanding us," he said. "There were retailers from Hattiesburg and Jackson asking if they could have us now. The answer is they can have us soon, but we want to fill the need on the Coast first. That's our home."
