Brewery news

Salt Lake City-based Epic Brewing announced on January, 4 it has signed a lease on a 19,000-square-foot industrial warehouse in River North that will house a 20-barrel brewhouse, a taproom and retail sales space.

Production at the new brewery is expected to begin in March. The brewery, Epic's second, eventually will be able to produce as much as 33,000 barrels per year, said Epic co-founder Dave Cole.

Cole said the brewery faced obstacles to expanding in Utah, a state with restrictive liquor laws, and Denver is positioned well for East Coast distribution.

The brewery is known for making high-alcohol experimental beers — including a Belgian pale ale aged in wine casks with organic peach purée. Denver's taproom will feature 20 to 25 Epic beers.
