Brewery news

After less than a year in business, Puyallup River Brewing is expanding from a garage brewery to an alehouse that will open in downtown Puyallup sometime in January, The News Tribune reported on December, 4.

Owner-brewer Eric Akeson plans a 2,000-square-foot alehouse that will tap local craft beers as well as the beers he brews in his backyard South Hill brewery, which he will keep as the headquarters for his brewing operation.

Akeson started bottling and self-distributing beer this spring, selling to the Tacoma Boys grocery stores and rapidly adding South Sound restaurants, pubs, beer stores and taprooms to his stable of buyers. While larger distribution may be in his future, for now he’ll continue to self-distribute while cycling his beers through his new downtown Puyallup alehouse. Those beers include his standards: Point Success Porter, Valley Farmhouse IPA, Fryingpan Cascadian Red Ale, and Paradise Blonde Saison. He’ll also cycle through his specialty seasonal brews like Peche Farmhouse Saison and Jack O’Lahar pumpkin ale.
