After Mauricio Leyva Arboleda was appointed Managing Director of the SABMiller beer division in South Africa in the board meeting on November, 12, the nomination of Grant Harries as the new president of Backus, beginning January 1st, 2013, was also approved, SABMiller reports.

Mr. Harries, an English citizen, joined SABMiller in 1984; he has since held several executive positions in South Africa and was appointed president of one of its divisions in 1997. In 2006, he was appointed president of the Honduras operation and later took over as president of SABMiller in Russia up until the beginning of this year. For the last eight months, he has been the SABMiller Project Manager in Europe.

Grant Harries has a degree in Business from the Natal University and an MBA from the Orange Free State University. He has also participated in several executive programs at the universities of INSEAD and Oxford.

Backus and Johnston is the largest brewery in Peru, part of Grupo Empresarial Bavaria, which itself is part of the international SABMiller group. Its main brewery is located in the Ate District of Lima. Backus, as owner of almost all brands of beer available in Peru, enjoys a de facto monopoly over Peruvian beer consumption.
