Barley news

Scandinavian origin malting barley has narrowed in value in comparison to UK – however the export market remains quiet with very few buyers of old crop, Gleadell reported on October, 26.

Uncertainty remains regarding possible gushing problems, notably in France, whilst good quality EU malting barley continues to move as feed due to large EU surplus with very few malt destinations.

The domestic market also remains quiet pre-Christmas with little fresh maltster demand.

Gleadell do still have November-December requirements for both winters and springs to a range of homes and on a range of nitrogen specifications.

Overall malting prices continue to track the general feed grain picture and seem likely to do so for the rest of the year.

There has been more interest noted for crop’13.

Wet weather in France has led to delayed winter plantings, which is likely to result in significantly higher spring barley plantings.

Gleadell experts still expect UK buyers to move further and further away from winter malting varieties.

Gleadell offer a range of new crop contracts for winter, spring and Null-Lox varieties - including premium over futures, buybacks, feed plus premiums as well as our non defaultable Null-Lox and Winter pool contracts.
