Brewery news

The average price of a pint of lager and bitter in the pub has increased 11p to £3.19 and £2.80 respectively this year, according to the British Beer & Pub Association’s (BBPA) Statistical Handbook 2012.

Meanwhile, the on-trade’s share of beer sales continues to decline, accounting for 51.8% of beer sales in 2011, against 52.7% in the previous year.

The figures also show that annual beer production increased in 2011 for the first time since 2003, with production up from 27.5 mln to 27.9 mln barrels. And UK beer exports reached a record high of £ 566 mln.
