Brewery news

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on May, 14 inaugurated a US$60 mln Khmer Brewery plant on the outskirts of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district, urging the country’s beer manufacturers to produce beer for export, Bernama reports.

“As competition cuts across borders, I would like to urge all beer manufacturers in Cambodia to produce not only for the domestic market but also to supply to foreign countries,” the premier said during the inauguration ceremony.

The development of beer industry is expected to increase the government’s tax revenues, as a can of beer will be required to contribute 30% of tariff and VAT to the government, the premier said.

Leang Khun, chairman of the Khmer Brewery plant, said the plant – a joint venture between Cambodia’s Chip Mong Group and Ziemann Group of Germany – is capable of producing 50 mln litres of beer annually and creating 1,500 jobs.

There are six breweries in Cambodia at present.
