After a long search, Appalachian Brewing Company has found a location in Lancaster County for its fifth brewpub, Pennlive.com reported on May, 7.

In June, the 15-year-old Harrisburg-based craft brewery will open a restaurant with small brewing operations in Lititz, a borough in the northern part of the county. It will join Appalachian’s other brewpubs in Harrisburg, Gettysburg, Camp Hill and Collegeville.

“I love the small community. It reminded me of both Camp Hill and somewhat like Gettysburg because of the number of tourists that come in the borough of Lititz. There are a multitude of small shops and artisan shops and we fit right in,” said Artie Tafoya, Appalachian’s director of operations.

Tafoya said they looked at between 50 and 60 buildings before finding the location in Lititz about four years ago. But, he said, it took an additional four years to reach an agreement with the building’s owner, Paul Brown.

Tafoya said he and Brown had different visions for the space but maintained an amicable relationship.

Small batches of specialty beer will be brewed on the premises similar to Appalachian’s Camp Hill, Gettysburg and Collegeville locations. But most of the beer sold at the site will be brewed in Harrisburg.

Despite the economy, Appalachian has managed to expand. Its Collegeville brewpub opened last year.

“We are affordable. Craft beer is relatively hot right now and that has helped us. And, to be very honest, my partners and I have always viewed a downturn in the economy as an opportunity to grow. That has sort of been our take,” Tafoya said.
