Brewery news

Bill Tressler, owner of Hinterland Brewery plans on adding four fermentation and lagering tanks and a grain silo to his brewery and restaurant in downtown Green Bay, pending approval of a conditional-use permit, Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on May, 4.

The Green Bay City Council is scheduled to take up the issue May 15.

Tressler said he's trying to get production caught up with sales growth, which was 200 percent each of the last two years. Hinterland is selling beer in six states.

"We'll hit a point where we can't make any more at this facility without making major changes," he said. "At the current growth rate, (that will be) about two years. It depends on if we settle down to a more realistic growth."

Hinterland can produce 6,000 barrels a year.

"We have our sights set on growing to 10,000 barrels," he said.
The operation also includes a restaurant, which until recently was the largest part of the operation. Tressler said they are about equal now.

"Back in 2009-2010, we were really looking for some way to diversify our business. We saw a definite decline in the amount of diners going to the restaurant every day," he said.

Hinterland last added new brewing tanks in 2010.

If the permits are approved, Tressler said construction could begin in summer.
