Brewery news

The employee lockout that was expected to happen at the Labatt-owned Oland Brewery in Halifax has been avoided thanks to some last minute negotiations, Canadian Beer News reported on February, 20.

The 130 unionized workers at the plant approved the latest contract offer on February, 19, after rejecting two previous offers. This latest vote came after the company informed Nova Scotia Labour Minister Marilyn More on February, 17, afternoon that it intended to lock out the workers if a deal wasn’t reached within 48 hours.

The terms of the latest deal have not been disclosed, but the previous offer included a 6.5 per cent wage increase over the next 7 years. Unionized workers at the plant are said to currently be making an average of C$69,000 per year.
