Brewery news

Fire fighters were called to the Carlsberg factory in Northampton on August, 3 following an explosion and fire in part of the brewery, Northampton Chronicle & Echo reported on the following day.

Four fire crews were called to the UK headquarters of the international brewing giant at about 2.30pm following reports of an explosion caused by machinery in the processing area inside the sprawling factory.

One eyewitness said he had been working nearby when he heard an explosion and saw a plume of smoke coming from the fourth floor of the glass fronted building, which overlooks the River Nene.

The fire is believed to have affected the third and fourth floor of the processing area, leaving the two floors below severely smoke logged.

Parts of the factory were then sealed off to allow fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus to enter the building and extinguish the blaze.

The fire crews remained on the scene during the afternoon until the fire was under control.

Nobody was injured in the explosion or in the subsequent fire.

“Smoke logging has occurred in floors one, two and three,” Thom Stitt, spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue, said.

Nobody was available for comment from Carlsberg on the day of the explosion.
