Brewer David Mathis, a beer maker from Rancho Cordova, is finalizing plans to open American River Brewing Co. - a new local brewery, The Sacramento Bee reported on July, 18.

Mathis' brewery will make a converted warehouse home, carving out about 7,000 square feet to brew beer and sodas.

A tasting room is also in the works. Mathis plans to open the room within a year, according to records filed with the city.

Rancho Cordova City Council officials on July 5 approved a conditional use permit for the brewery project and other approvals are pending.

Officials in their formal approval said American River Brewing Co. could support other businesses and venues in the Trade Center Drive area, including the nearby Sunrise Event Center and the city's proposed convention district.
