Per capita beer consumption in Slovakia fell by 10% last year, according to figures released this month by the Slovak Breweries and Malt Makers Association.

The Association has reported that the 2009 level of 79 litres of beer per person fell to just over 70 litres last year. The country has seen per capita beer consumption slide steadily since 2007, according to the trade body's president, Julia Hurná.

Consumption of wine also fell last year, from 16.5 litres in 2009 to 15 in 2010. Spirits, meanwhile, increased its per capita figure, from 9.9 litres to 10.6 litres.

Total per capita consumption of all alcoholic beverages fell from 9 litres in 2009 to 8.8 litres in 2010, with soft drinks slipping from around 232 litres to 224 litres.
