Brewery news

New Zealand’s DB Breweries has announced it will be increasing its prices by about 4.7% across all brands, TVNZ reported on May, 13.

Beer, Ready to Drinks (RTDs), and the brewery's cider range will be affected.

DB Breweries' managing director Brian Blake says the increases follow a significant rise in transportation and production costs.

"We had planned to introduce a price increase in April but decided to delay doing so in light of the challenges the market, especially those in Canterbury," he said.

"While we appreciate the environment remains testing, regrettably we can no longer absorb mounting transportation and production costs."

The Excise Tax which takes effect July 1 was another factor in the price hike," Blake said.

The price rise will take effect June 27.

Among the beer brands in DB's staple are Heineken, Tui, Amstel Light, Export Gold, Sol, Tiger, Monteith's and Murphy's.
