Brewery news

Although beer sales have been dropping, mini-breweries keep popping up in Poland, Puls Biznesu reported on November, 25.

According to the newspaper, sale of beer fell by over 8% in Poland last year and is expected to shrink by another 4% this year. Yet, mini-breweries located in restaurants are doing great, it is reported.

The newspaper cites Jerzy Becz, who has been in the business for many years, as saying that there were only three mini-breweries in Poland in 2004. Becz said also that the cost of establishing a restaurant with a mini-brewery varies between PLN 2 million to 4 million depending on the location. It is a very profitable business though and sales grow fast.

According to experts, Polish market could tolerate 80 to 100 restaurant breweries, whereas Germany has over a thousand of them.
