E-Malt.com News article: South Africa: SABMiller aims to hold on to its 90% market share
Brewery news

Global brewer SABMiller PLC's ambition is to hold on to an about 90% share of South Africa's beer market even as competitors fight for share with premium brands, an executive was quoted as saying on May, 26 by Dow Jones.

The London-based company, which counts Castle Lager, Hansa and Black Label among its brands in the country, has a market share of roughly 88%-89%, Norman Adami, managing director of the South African Breweries Ltd. unit, said.

Mr. Adami said he takes seriously the aspiration of SAB's main competitors to grab a 20% share of the market.

SABMiller was formed in 2002 with the acquisition of Miller Brewing Co. by South African Breweries.
