E-Malt.com News article: Spain: Barley plantings down 3.3% versus the previous season
Barley news

The Spanish Agricultural Ministry announced on March, 1 that barley plantings for harvest 2010 have fallen by 3.3% compared to the previous season.

The lower barley plantings are in response to the low prices across the EU as well as the high stock levels being held in Spain.

However, farmers are reporting that it is too early to be making concrete prediction on the size of plantings for harvest 2010. Farmers group Asaja reports that 20% of the crop in the southern region of Andalusia could have been ruined by flooding, with the saturated soils making it hard for farmers to carry out applications of fertiliser and herbicides.
