Karnataka’s state government has revised rates of Additional Excise Duty on Indian Made Liquor (IML), beer and other low alcoholic beverages, The Express Features cited on March, 2 the amendments to Karnataka Excise (Excise Duties and Fees) Rules, 1968

The revised rates are to come into effect on March 5. For beer, the additional excise duty is now proposed to be levied on ad valorem basis instead of on per litre basis.

The proposed changes are likely to result in some increase in the price of beer, said a release from the Department of Finance, Government of Karnataka.
