Coopers Brewery won the title of 2008 Telstra South Australian Business of the Year, Adelaide Now informed on August 27.

Coopers beat 19 other local businesses to win the top award, after also winning the medium business award for companies with between 21 and 200 employees.

Coopers, Australia’s third-largest brewer, is the only major brewery to be family-owned in the country.

Currently the brewery holds about 3.3 per cent of the Australian beer market.

Coopers is also the world's largest maker and exporter of home-brewing concentrates.

Telstra Business Awards ambassador Deena Shiff said the award recognised Coopers for its hard work, determination and business success.

“The judges were highly impressed by Coopers Brewery's customer focus, innovative thinking, company vision and overall business practices,” Ms Shiff said yesterday.

“These key areas are the building blocks of Coopers Brewery's success and make the company a role model for all South Australian businesses.”

All award recipients will compete against other state and territory winners at the national final in October.

Coopers is in the running for the 2008 Telstra Australian Business of the Year award.
