Spain triumphed in June's Euro 2008, but the real winners in Swiss households during the football championship were beers, crisps and other snacks, AFP cited a research published on August 25.

A study by market research group Nielsen revealed that beer sales were up 10.9 percent to 278 million Swiss francs (172 million euros, 253 million dollars) in the eight-week period which included the Euro 2008 championships (June 7-29) against the previous eight-week period.

Households also reached for crisps, peanuts, frozen foods, wine and iced tea during the tournament, the study said.
