E-Malt.com News article: UK: Carlsberg’ S&N acquisition - three more specialty beers into portfolio

As part of the take-over of Scottish and Newcastle (S&N) earlier this year, Carlsberg UK will sell and distribute Baltika, Mythos and Grimbergen on both on and off-trade customers, The Publican said on July 21.

S&N’s UK brewing and pub operations, as well as the group’s businesses in a number of European markets were assumed jointly by Carlsberg and Heineken in March.

Mythos is the number one Greek lager brand, Baltika is Russia’s number one beer, and Grimbergen is a Belgium abbey beer brewed since 1128.

“Consumers are looking to explore new and different beers. As with the trends in food, beer drinkers are placing greater emphasis on provenance and authenticity as the growth in the market illustrates.

The addition of these brands to the Carlsberg UK portfolio allows us to cater to this fast growing and ever more discerning market," says Paul Davies, Carlsberg UK head of brands.
