Brewery news

South African Breweries is confident the country will not run out of beer over the festive season, according to Business Report, December 3.

The brewer, which has about 97 percent of the beer market, recently experienced glass shortages and tight supplies, but is seeing the tightness ease up.

Communications manager Janine van Stolk said all the company's breweries were running at almost 100 percent capacity.

"We are absolutely not going to run out of beer."

However, outlets might have to order more often than before instead of stockpiling, as the recent glass shortage meant the brewer was not able to build as many stock days as usual. About 44 percent more beer is sold this month than in an average month.
