Authentic Singaporean festival with delicious Chilli Crabs, dragon and lion dancing, live cooking demonstrations, an art gallery, music, market stalls & perfectly chilled Tiger Beer, according to Jetsetters, September 6. This year’s event is set to be even bigger and better, celebrating all things Singaporean - food, live entertainment and, of course, Tiger Beer.

For epicureans, Singapore’s unofficial national dish – Chilli Crab, served with a delicious tomato and chilli-based sauce – will be on offer as well as chicken satay, Char Kway Teow (a delicious rice noodle dish) and Hainanese Chicken Rice. To satisfy sugar cravings, there will be a number of sweet sensations including Ice Kachang (a sweet ice dessert really popular from market stalls in Singapore) and Bur Bur Cha Cha (a delicious tapioca dessert) among others. Chilled bottles of Tiger Beer will be on hand to cool the spicy flavours.

Leading London-based Singaporean chef and restaurateur, Ronald Lim of the recently opened Kiasu in Bayswater, has the huge task of cooking up the succulent Chilli Crab dish for an expected 8,000 or more festival-goers. Time Out London recently awarded Kiasu in the top five best new London restaurants for ‘Cheap Eats’ or meals under £20.

This year’s festival will be held across three main venues in East London’s Brick Lane: the Boiler House, Vibe Bar and 93 Feet Street, where festival-goers can immerse themselves in the unique tastes, sights and sounds of a truly authentic Singaporean experience. Divya Panickar, Area Director North and West Europe, Singapore Tourism Board said: “We are delighted to bring a taste of colourful Singapore to London’s East End. The Tiger Beer Singapore Chilli Crab Festival is emerging as one of the highlight food festivals on London’s event calendar combining the best of Singapore’s diverse culture, food and entertainment over a whole weekend.”

According to Steven Greaves, Tiger Beer, “Last year’s Tiger Beer Singapore Chilli Crab Festival was a huge success and a great day out for the 7,000 people who came along. This year, we’re aiming to outdo ourselves, and really make London the unofficial ‘Chilli Crab Capital’ for the weekend. It’s a great way for people to try something a little adventurous from Singapore and, of course, take the opportunity to enjoy a perfectly chilled Tiger Beer on a hot summer’s afternoon – a perfect accompaniment to the spicy chilli crab!” 2007 Festival Highlights

– Singaporean chef, author and reviewer, Terry Tan will share his secrets of cooking the ultimate Singaporean cuisine with live cooking demonstrations taking place throughout the weekend

– Works by some of Singapore’s most promising and emerging artists will be showcased at the festival’s art gallery

– traditional dragon and lion dancing, music workshops, martial art demonstrations, henna-tattoos, calligraphy writing and magic shows will entertain festival goers

– and finally, there will be a lush grassed area where visitors can sit and relax and take in the festival atmosphere
