Foster's of SABMiller has increased it market share to nine percent of the lager segment from five percent in Aug 2006, The Financial Times Limited reported August 9.

In India, the mild beer segment accounts for roughly 40 million cases or 30 percent of the overall beer market of 136 million cases.

The major share of the growth for Foster's has come from Rajasthan, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. SABMiller, to counter the strong competition from United Breweries, is adopting aggressive strategies for Foster's. It has augmented its market penetration, distribution and visibility in major markets in west, south and north.
