Brewery news

The National Urban League (NUL) and Heineken USA expanded their collective commitment to developing the nation's future leaders today through the return of the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP)-Heineken USA Rising Star Award program, PRNewswire reported June 13. Now in its third year, the Rising Star Award annually honors four young professionals for their leadership and their commitment to encouraging economic empowerment in their communities.

Rising Star Award candidates are nominated by local National Urban League affiliates across the country based on policy papers addressing a specific economic empowerment issue. In 2007, young professionals will examine the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 and provide their view on whether the legislation has been a necessary and effective tool in eliminating discrimination in lending.

Each submitted policy paper will be judged within the National Urban League's four regions, with eight regional finalists defending their positions during the National Urban League's Annual Convention in St. Louis, Mo. in late July. The candidate deemed to have most successfully defended their policy position will receive the NULYP-Heineken USA Rising Star Award, as well as a $5,000 monetary award, an all-expenses paid trip to a Heineken USA-sponsored event and an invitation to present their paper at the Whitney M. Young Leadership Development Conference. Other prizes will be awarded to regional finalists.
