Heineken’s acquisition of BBAG in Austria became a source of worry for Czech brewers. Through the deal, Heineken will lay its hands on Starobrno, thus finally getting the foothold it has been longing for in the Czech Republic, a nation that boasts extensive exports –but also domestic consumption- of beer.

According to the Prague Business Journal, Heineken is expected to go for “robust expansion”, as one representative of the trade organisation for brewers put it. That would mean yet another global player squeezing the minor breweries in the country.
