Brewery news

Brazil’s leading brewer Ambev has inaugurated its glass factory in Carambeí, Paraná, Brazil, Glass International reported on December 16.

The facility is the company’s second glass factory in Brazil, adding to its plant in Rio de Janeiro.

It will run on 100% renewable electricity and is prepared to operate with biofuels.

It can also produce bottles with up to 80% recycled glass.

The total invested in the facility amounted to BRL 1 billion (approximately US $185 million).

Felipe Baruque, Vice-President Procurement & Sustainability at AB InBev, said: “In the last three years, we have invested more than BRL 10 billion in our operations in Brazil.

“We will continue to make progress to ensure a more efficient, modern chain prepared to keep up with market growth and consumer preferences.”

The plant has a capacity of 600 million bottles per year and will supply Ambev’s breweries in different states.

It will also support the growth of its premium portfolio and optimise delivery time and supply.

Since the beginning of the works, Ambev has generated more than 4,200 jobs in the region.

Now in operation, there will be at least 170 new direct and indirect jobs.
