Rogue Ales & Spirits closed its operations in Newport and all its restaurants — including the recently opened Rogue Salem Public House — suddenly on Nov. 14, the Statesman Journal reported on November 14.

The Lincoln Chronicle reported that the 37-year-old business owed $545,000 in back rent to the Port of Newport and up to $30,000 in taxes to Lincoln County.

The Rogue Salem Public House opened at the former Gilgamesh Brewing "The Woods" location in West Salem this spring.

It was the sixth brewpub Rogue had opened since its founding in 1988. Four remained, including the West Salem location, an Astoria location and a Portland location.

Employees reported receiving no prior warning about the closures and were suddenly without jobs.

Carinna Stanton, a manager at the West Salem location, told The Oregonian an all-employee message announcing the closures went out at 8 a.m.

“There was no warning, no heads up, just an announcement that said we were going to be paid until the end of today,” she said. “They wished everyone well ... two weeks before Thanksgiving.”
