 | E-Malt.com News article: USA, TN: Xul Beer Company taking over two Southern Grist Brewing Co. locations in Nashville
A Knoxville-based brewery is expanding to Nashville, taking over two Southern Grist Brewing Co. locations. Xul Beer Company, known for its PB&J Mixtape sour, announced the move on Instagram on Aug. 26, Yahoo reported.
In early 2025, Southern Grist reflected on its future while Xul Beer Co. was in a rapid growth phase, read the social media post. The momentum led Southern Grist founders to agree that Xul was the "perfect pick" to lead the brand into its next chapter.
"We have been family for years," wrote Xul Beer Co. about Southern Grist Brewing. "We have the same values. We have the same focus on quality. We have the best customers and fans any business could ask for."
"It was meant to be."
By the end of 2025, Xul Beer Co. will be operating both of Southern Grist’s Nashville locations, with Southern Grist staff remaining on board. While the deal is not yet complete, Xul Beer Co. assured that further details are forthcoming.
In an accompanying post, Southern Grist said the Nashville company will "always be part of the story, living on in spirit" as the Knoxville brand takes over current locations.
"At Southern Grist, we've spent nearly a decade pushing boundaries, brewing new ideas, and shaping what's next for Nashville's beer scene," wrote Southern Grist.
"As we approach our 10th anniversary and look ahead to the next decade, we're turning the page to an even more exciting chapter — one that will be written by our longtime friends at Xul Beer Co."
Southern Grist first opened in 2016 with a brewery in East Nashville at 754 Douglas Ave. Two years later, they expanded with a second location in the Nations neighborhood, situated directly in front of their production facility at 5012 Centennial Blvd.
Xul (pronounced Zul) operates two taprooms as well as a beer production and private event space in Knoxville.
In February, Xul announced it had purchased the Fanatic Brewing facility two miles north of downtown Knoxville.
Xul brewed 5,200 barrels in 2024 and is aiming to more than double its output to over 10,000 barrels at the Fanatic facility, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel of the USA TODAY Network.
