A new project that aims to “bring local brewers & local artists together to create something uniquely Winnipeg” is set to make its public launch later this week, the Canadian Beer News reported on February 10.

Blank Canvas Beer Co. has been founded by Brad Chute and Jenna Khan, a husband and wife team who have partnered with brewer Perry Joyal at Torque Brewing and artist Kal Barteski for their first release.

Inspired by Barteski’s paintings of polar bears, Joyal developed a white stout that has been dubbed Blank Canvas Arctic Stout.

Brewery news USA, FL: Unbranded Brewing Company sets opening date
Four years ago, Unbranded Brewing Company announced it would open. Now the brewery has set a date, the Miami New Times reported on February 6.

On Saturday, February 22, Unbranded will celebrate the grand opening of its 32,000-square-foot brewery in the Leah Arts District in Hialeah.

Owner Zachary Swanson says he chose the location for several reasons, including the abundance of civic pride that residents of the City of Progress have toward their hometown.

"People who live in Hialeah have a strong connection to where they're from. Craft breweries work well in places where people are proud of their city." Swanson also says he wants to be a part of the formation of the Leah Arts District. "We thought it would be really good to be the anchor of the arts district. Matt Kusher's Stephen's [Delicatessen] is only two or three blocks away. We want to really provide the people of Hialeah with a cool communal meeting spot."

Finally, Swanson cites practicality: "Wynwood and other parts of Miami are incredibly expensive. We could afford to buy a rather large facility in Hialeah."

The massive brewery includes a 30-barrel brewing system that will make Unbranded's flagship beers, such as Golden, a golden ale; Guava, a ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CA: Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co. nearing opening day at new location in downtown Truckee
After more than a year’s worth of work, Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co. is nearing opening day at its new location in downtown Truckee, the Sierra Sun reported on February 7.

Located at the historic Kruger-White House, Tahoe Mountain Brewing will bring new food items to downtown along with its staple of beers. The brewing company also plans to branch out and begin making its own wines and ciders as Tahoe Mountain Cellars and Cidery.

“We love the building,” said owner Aaron Bigelow. “We love the fact that it’s Truckee’s only National Historic registered building. It’s a rare building that’s survived.”

The building was originally a mansion, and was built between 1873 and 1874 by W.H. Kruger.

Last year, Tahoe Mountain Brewing moved from its Truckee location on Industrial Way, selling much of its equipment to The Good Wolf Brewing Co. Tahoe Mountain Brewing did, however, retain some of its equipment and will continue to brew beer on Industrial Way along with making wine and cider there.

At its new location at 10292 Donner Pass Road, Tahoe Mountain Brewing plans to be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will include a coffee bar, and lunch will have a menu featuring an array of sandwich ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MD: Ministry of Brewing arrives in Washington Hill, Baltimore
There's a brand-new brewery in Washington Hill, Baltimore called Ministry of Brewing and located at 1900 E. Lombard St., Hoodline reported on February 7.

The brewery offers a taproom with 32 rotating taps and 53-foot barrel ceilings. On the menu, expect to see items like its hard cider, along with The Point, a Czech-style pilsner and the Old Maude, a brown ale.

With a 3.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the newcomer has gotten a decent response, but it's early days.

Yelper Madi B. wrote, “The beautiful architecture and artwork is awe-inspiring. It's a great place to drink, but the beer is mediocre. I enjoyed my Wispy, the pale ale, but the 754, West Coast IPA, was disappointing."

And David B. added, "The staff is extremely friendly and it's a great atmosphere with cornhole, Jenga and other games to pass the time with friends. If all else fails, you're drinking inside a church and that's exciting on its own."

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Ministry of Brewing is open from noon–10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)

Brewery news USA, MI: ByGeorge Brewing Company softly opens in Munising
By George, another brewery has made its way to the Upper Peninsula!

This one is called ByGeorge Brewing Company, and it's located right in the heart of downtown Munising, UpperMichigansSource.com reported on February 6.

"I'm still working, doing some construction here and there during the day, but yeah it's been awesome finally getting to stand behind the bar and see people with smiles on their faces," says partner and brewer, Matthew Johnson.

Located on E Superior Street, ByGeorge had a soft opening over the weekend, but it was far from being soft.

"It was pretty overwhelming, we were definitely humbled by the turnout that we had from local support, family friends, contractors that we've had," says Johnson.

"It's been great, wonderful, so positive. It's a validation of the hard work. I can't believe actually the amount of outpouring of support we've had," says owner and head brewer, George Schultz.

Schultz and Johnson, both Munising natives, are the brains behind the operation. They're also the friendly faces you'll see upon entering.

"Matt and I go back over a decade. We met, ironically, through beer," says Schultz.

It all began from Schultz' passion for chemistry, and, of course, beer.

"So about 17 years ago, I tried home brewing. Obviously it stuck, ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NY: Bright Eye Beer Company to open its Long Beach brewery on February 21
Bright Eye Beer Company is planning to open the first craft brewery in the City of Long Beach on Feb. 21, the Long Island Press reported.

Co-owner Luke Heneghan, who grew up in nearby Point Lookout, built the brewery in a 5,000-square-foot space that was originally a five-and-dime store and spent a reported $800,000 on renovations.

“We’re excited to be opening in the heart of Long Beach and hope that our taproom will become a place for community gatherings and local artists to display their work,” says Heneghan.

He and his partners, Molly Allare and his sister, Keira Heneghan, spent a year installing a 15-barrel brewhouse and a 40-foot bar in the building built in 1939.

“We were committed to recycling the wood from this historic building,” he says. “We took over 150 feet of old-growth pine from floor joists. We removed and used them to make the top of the taproom bar and other table tops.”

The taproom also features recycled steel beams from the old Point Lookout Pavilion that was taken down in 2018. The brewery’s name, Bright Eye, was the name of a fish packing company, Bright Eye Fish Company, in Point Lookout in the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, PA: Liquid Noise Brewing Company already open in Marysville
Perry County’s third brewery opened two weeks ago in Marysville, making noise in the craft brewing and local business scenes, pennlive.com reported on February 8.

“Last night was just crazy,” said Shawn Wirick, co-owner of Liquid Noise Brewing Company, on Jan. 25. It was grand opening weekend for the brewery at the Rockville Centre next to Dollar General.

“Our security person said there was a line outside, and we thought he was joking until we saw it,” said Wirick, co-owner with his wife Michelle.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, there were 30 people lined up for the brewery before it even opened its doors.

That’s what the Wiricks and their other partners were hoping for when they set out last year to launch the brewery and tasting room. They’ve been planning, brewing and organizing their company since 2017. They join a Perry craft-beer scene that includes River Bend Hop Farm & Brewery in Newport and Lindgren Craft Brewery in Duncannon.

In August, Liquid Noise was in the thick of renovating the space at Rockville Centre and had planned on opening sometime in the fall.

Unfortunately, there were some setbacks, Wirick said, but they were able to finish construction and have a soft-opening weekend with friends and ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, KY: Uncrafted Territory Brewing Company officially opens in Ohio County
After two years of planning, the Uncrafted Territory Brewing Company has officially opened in Ohio County, 14 News WFIE Evansville reported on February 7.

Friday, February 7 wasn’t just a big night for the owners of the brewery, but it was a big night for the county.

“We’ve always wanted to open a business here in town, we’re all from Ohio County, so we wanted to stay local,” said co-owner Brett Renfrow.

The road to opening Ohio County’s one and only brewery was not easy, it actually took two years to do it.

“It was just a really good opportunity the county went wet a few years ago, and there’s nothing like it here,” said co-owner, Jeffery Luttrell.

The brewery has five different craft beers made right in house, giving their customers an experience they can’t find within miles.

“The closest breweries, there’s one in Henderson, Hopkinsville and Bowling Green,” said Renfrow.

Brett and Jeffrey tell us their brewery is something the community was looking for, and the turnout on February 7 proves it.

“It was worth it, we had a good night last night, and steady crowd tonight, I think we’ll have a good turn out this weekend and hopefully continue forward,” said Luttrell.

Owners say they have ...More info on site

Brewery news USA: Molson Coors launches new wheat beer Blue Moon LightSky
Blue Moon Brewing Co. announced on February 7 the national launch of a new light brew, Blue Moon LightSky: a light citrus wheat beer brewed with real tangerine peel and dry hopped with Azacca hops. At only 95 calories and packed with flavor, Blue Moon LightSky delivers against the beverage industry’s “better for you” trend without compromising on taste”, Brewbound reported.

“We wanted to make this beer unique and distinctive to the Blue Moon portfolio,” said Max Walker, vice president of above premium beer at Molson Coors. “We think Blue Moon LightSky is going to bring new drinkers into the Blue Moon family of brands and continue to elevate the brand as a whole.”

The new brew is both light and sessionable, with 3.6 grams of carbohydrates and 4 percent ABV, and marries Blue Moon’s signature haze with bright citrus notes of real tangerine peel and a subtle tropical hop flavor. Packaged in sleek 12oz slim cans, in 6-pack and 12-pack varieties, Blue Moon LightSky is the perfect grab-and-go option for wherever the day takes you, like lounging poolside, barbecuing outdoors or brunching with friends.

Blue Moon LightSky will be supported with a dedicated marketing campaign, beginning in early March, and will appear ...More info on site

Brewery news World: Heineken CEO Jean-Francois van Boxmeer to step down, current Asia Pacific head named as successor
Heineken NV said on February 11 that Chief Executive Jean-Francois van Boxmeer will step down after leading the company for 15 years, and it named Dolf van den Brink, who currently heads its Asia Pacific operations, as his successor.

The Dutch brewer said Mr. Van den Brink will join its executive board on April 23 and that Mr. Van Boxmeer will hand over his responsibilities on June 1.

Mr. Van Boxmeer joined Heineken as a management trainee in 1984, was appointed as member of its executive board in 2001 and became CEO in 2005, the company said.

Heineken separately said Stefan Orlowski, currently president of the company's European operations, has decided to leave the business after 22 years to pursue his private entrepreneurial interests.

Brewery news Ethiopia: Heineken debuts its signature draft beer in Ethiopia
Quietly and without any fanfare, Heineken debuted its signature draft beer in Ethiopia last week, The Reporter Ethiopia said on February 8.

Maker of one of the most visible brands in the nation, including Walia, Bedele and Harar, this is to be a high premier draft that will complement its everyday brand of beer, Walia. In addition, the company has the bestselling non-alcoholic Sofi and Buckler drinks under its fold.

The company, one of the two top producers of beer, inaugurated its brewery in 2015 in Kilinto in the presence of the then Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. It had the capacity of producing 1.5 mln hl of beer.

The company first entered the Ethiopian market in 2011 after buying Bedele and Harar brands and their facilities, for the sum of EUR 310 million, a still record sum for such acquisition in Ethiopia.

However, most of the local beer markets have suffered and Heineken was not an exception. This came about when the Ethiopian government decided to end beer advertisements on television and suddenly decided to spike the excise tax to beer sold locally, to about an additional 8 Birr, pushing it from per bottle sum of 3 birr to 11 birr.

As the result, like ...More info on site
