How emotional is beer drinking ?

ABSTRACT
This question was investigated by an Italian/Polish research team. The study examined emotional responses to real (tasted, in real social environment of consumption) and conceptual (food names) food stimuli. Different studies were conducted using the list of emotion words (EsSense™) developed by King and Meiselman. Emotions that were elicited by the named beers and wines varied slightly in kind and largely in degree between Poles and Italians. The strongest emotional response was observed in the Polish panel for both stimuli. These results are of interest for new products in both categories (wine or beer). I wonder, how could you NOT be emotional about beer ?

Brewery news The Czech Republic and China: Czech beer export to China nearly doubles in 2014
Czech beer export to China nearly doubled yr/yr from 12,688 hectolitres to 22,688 hectolitres in 2014, with the total export of 3.65 million hectolitres making the Chinese export share roughly 0.62 percent, Vladimír Balach, executive director at the Czech Beer and Malt Association, told ČTK on September 10.

Apart from Pivovary Lobkowicz Group, partly owned by Chinese group CEFC as of September, Budějovický Budvar and Plzeňský Prazdroj export to China, although the companies are reluctant to make their export volumes public.

“China is the biggest world beer market. Its consumption is mostly covered by the domestic production at the moment but over the past few years, Chinese demand for premium imported beer brands has been climbing mainly due to the fast growing Chinese middle age group,” Roman Pavlík, spokesman of Pivovary Lobkowicz, has said without further specification of the company's future export strategy.

Budějovický Budvar exported to nine countries of Southeast Asia last year, the most important states being China, Japan, Mongolia and Vietnam, Petr Samec, the company's spokesperson stated, adding the company increased its sales in the region by 47 percent year-on-year.

Plzeňský Prazdroj renewed its export to China in August this year.

“Given the high interest of the Chinese market in Pilsner Urquell ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Brewers in Maharashtra could soon face water woes
The powerful beer industry in the Indian state of Maharashtra could soon face water woes. Post a deficient South-West monsoon, the State government is thinking of drastically cutting down water supply, especially to industries in water-deficient areas such as Aurangabad, The Hindu Business Line reported on September 13.

Manufacturing 1 litre of beer requires about 9 litres of water. All major beer manufacturers have plants in the Waluj and Chikalthana industrial areas of Aurangabad, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

A senior MIDC official said that industries in the area drew water from the Jayakwadi dam, which has a storage of only 4.6 per cent of the total capacity. In such a situation, water supplies to beer makers and other water-guzzling units will have to be cut. From the dam, about 3 million cubic meters of water is committed for the industries, which will have to be halved, the official said.

The official pointed that water from the Godavari river gets stored at the Jayakwadi dam and has a high pH (alkaline) value, making it most suitable for beer making. Since the beer manufacturers are solely dependent on the dam, they will have to drastically cut down their production.

The emerging water ...More info on site

Barley news Russia: Agriculture Ministry to raise grain intervention purchase prices and may revise wheat export duty
Russia's Agriculture Ministry will raise purchase prices for its grain intervention fund and has drawn up proposals to ease the burden of wheat export duty, Deputy Agriculture Minister Evgeny Gromyko was quoted as saying on September 12 by Reuters.

"We will increase prices," he said in comments cited by TASS. "It will be quite decent. It will suit farmers."

Gromyko did not say what level grain intervention prices would be raised to.

Russian media have previously reported that the government is considering raising purchase prices for the intervention fund by a thousand roubles per tonne.

Gromyko also said the ministry has drawn up proposals for changes to a wheat export duty which, he said, would reduce the burden on business "significantly".

Russia introduced the tax in July, causing concern among grain exporters and traders who say it will harm profitability.

Expectations were already growing that the tax would be softened following lobbying of the government by agriculture industry participants.
