 | E-Malt.com News article: USA, NY: Bent Beam Brewing to start brewing in Canton soon
The first batches of beer will soon be brewed at the long-awaited Bent Beam Brewing in Canton, with the new business slated to open in March or early April, the North Country Now reported on February 9.
Construction on the brewery was considered “finished substantially” as of late January, according to St. Lawrence County IDA CEO Patrick Kelly.
Kelly reported that the business is “working on cleaning and commissioning the brew house now” at the Jan. 27 meeting of the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency Local Development Corporation.
The IDA CEO reported that the business is also securing licensing and implementing operational essentials such as a point of sale system.
Kelly said that operators are now shooting for a March or April opening, but noted that is a rough estimate as “they’re trying to take the time and do everything correctly.”
Once Bent Beam receives its final licenses, brewers must then wait for the natural process of fermentation to occur, which Kelly estimated could take “eight to ten weeks.”
The IDA LDC facilitated a loan for the project in December for $225,000. Kelly said half of that loan will be repaid, while the other half will be “permanent financing.”
In 2022, the project was awarded $610,000 in Restore NY funding.
Construction of the current iteration of the project began in May 2024.
Brewery owners originally intended to house the facility in the original McCarthy’s Furniture Barn building, but that structure was razed after Gouverneur-based Northern Tier Contracting deemed it unsafe due to fire and water damage.
